For over 30 years, qaryahs (community groups) across Singapore’s neighbourhoods have been setting up prayer spaces at void decks for Muslim residents to perform nightly tarawih prayers during Ramadan.

After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, these prayer spaces are finally returning. But in an unexpected turn of events, the decades-old practice faces an urgent risk of disappearing.
